Aishwarya dispels bikini rumours
Saturday, May 12, 2007

On her 32nd birthday on November 1, Aishwarya Rai is feeling on top of the world and looking like a million bucks. Is that what she got paid for her performance in Doug Lefler's Last Legion?"Ha! I'm not telling. What I'll tell you is, I've never had so much fun acting. So far I was doing lots of roles that required me to play women with a heavy soul -- not that I didn't enjoy that phase of my career -- but now I'm finally playing girls who wanna have fun."In Last Legion, which she has just shot in Tunisia and Slovakia, she plays a horse-riding, sword-swishing warrior."I've never done this before. It was really something! There's a lot of sword fighting. There was hardly any time to prepare, to learn these things. I reached on-location and almost immediately got into it. The whole ambience was so professional and yet so relaxed. All of us were work-oriented, but it wasn't all work and no play. Everyone was so much into work, and yet having a good time."Ash is the main and only female lead in the film. So, is this her true launch into international cine-stardom?"I don't see Last Legion that way," Ash says. "Why do you see it as my international launch? Why are Provoked or Mistress Of Spices not international projects? Because I play Indian characters in them? It doesn't work that way for me."After this film, Ash goes into Umrao Jaan and Dhoom 2. "Both are very different from one another. I've never played these kinds of roles before."How true are rumours that she is losing weight to fit into a bikini for Dhoom 2?"There's no bikini, please! But yes, I've definitely lost weight. It's a process that started earlier for Last Legion. If I had to get on a horse I had to look worthy of it, no? And since in Dhoom 2 I'm playing an utter hip-and-now character, I naturally needed to get more into shape. It was natural process, not one of those dietary missions."I had never worked out, never made any effort to lose weight. I'm a total foodie with a sweet tooth. I've never tried to control my diet. During Bride & Prejudice and Raincoat the directors did want me to look a little heavy for my characters. But for Last Legion and Dhoom 2 I had to close it. Nothing stipulated in the contract or anything, please! But just something I thought I needed to do."Is she in a transitional phase in her career? "I've never looked at my career in phases. There's never the urge to look at one particular part of my career as all consuming. People from the outside can perhaps categorise different phases in my career. For me everything I do is equally important. You may think some of my earlier films were candyfloss. But believe you me, they were as hard to do as the battered wife in Provoked or the warrior in Last Legion."Talk veers to Amitabh Bachchan and his 'Madam, I'm your only Adam' declaration in Bunty Aur Babli."I didn't know Mr Bachchan had quietly incorporated that line for me at the end of our number in Bunty Aur Babli," says Ash.And she is genuinely surprised when I inform her Madam I'm your Adam has become a song in David Dhawan's new comedy Shaadi No 1."You can't be serious! Really? But that was a special line, only for me. They can't do that," she grumbles jokingly.

Fox Medicates During TV Interview

HOLLYWOOD - Michael J. Fox agreed to show the extent of his Parkinson's Disease symptoms during a recent TV interview when he paused to medicate himself. The Back to the Future star brought his chat with James Lipton on in-depth talk show Inside The Actors Studio to an abrupt halt because he could feel himself starting to shake. The actor was in the midst of telling Lipton the lengths he took to hide his nervous disorder while he was starring in sitcom Spin City a decade ago, when he asked, "Can I take two minutes?" before explaining he needed to take that time for "a pill to kick in" before walking offstage.Upon his return, a more composed Fox explained to Lipton and his Actors Studio audience that medicating himself became a problem while he was trying to hide the disease. He explained, "That was basically what was happening while we were doing the show--I was waiting for a pill to kick in, I was waiting to feel better."The actor's wife Tracy Pollan and his teenage son were in the audience for the taping, which will air on Sunday.

DiCaprio Takes Global Warming Warning to TV

HOLLYWOOD - Leonardo DiCaprio joined environmentalists to give Americans a pre-Halloween scare on Oprah Winfrey's talk show yesterday, when he warned about the dangers of global warming. The Titanic star presented a segment from a politically charged new documentary, called Global Warming, which he narrates, and explained he felt the last year's hurricanes and tsunamis are just a terrifying warning of what is to come.DiCaprio and Dr. Michael Oppenheimer, a professor at Princeton University, attempted to explain the "complicated issue" of global warming, emphasizing that America, which boasts five percent of the world's population, produces 25 percent of the globe's carbon emissions. The actor stated, "Global warming is not only the number one environmental issue that we're facing today, but one of the most important issues facing all of humanity."We're in a situation right now where we're basically emitting too much of this carbon pollution from our cars and our electric power plants that burn coal into the atmosphere, and it's causing our planet to heat up."Winfrey listened intently as DiCaprio warned about the dangers of ignoring the problem, and then said, "You feel like Noah (biblical character who built an arc in preparation for a great flood) to me—you’re like, 'Pay attention, pay attention, pay attention.'"Winfrey then confessed she owns one of the five worst sports utility vehicles on a new emissions list, prompting DiCaprio to state, "That's OK, as long as you change that."

Desperate Housewives’ Stars Hunt Out Mole

HOLLYWOOD - The Desperate Housewives cast members are keeping a watchful eye on everybody on the set of their hit TV show, in an effort to find out who's been leaking gossip about them to the press. Teri Hatcher, Marcia Cross, Eva Longoria, Felicity Huffman and Nicollette Sheridan have been plagued by numerous rumors--including denied reports of cat fighting--ever since their show took the ratings by storm. And they've now embarked on a mission to catch the person responsible for the relentless gossip. Sheridan tells Maxim magazine, "The press doesn't want to hear that we all get along, that we're enjoying the work and one another. They love to build you up and then tear you down. People love all the drama that's created."There seems to be some sort of mole on the set. Somehow things seem to get out... We've been trying to find him."

Potter's dream dates: Portman, Johansson

Harry Potter actor Daniel Radcliffe would love to take Hollywood beauties Natalie Portman or Scarlett Johansson to the Hogwarts Yule Ball, the wizard school's equivalent of prom night. The 16-year-old actor revealed his love for the two glamorous stars at a London press conference to promote the latest Potterfilm, Harry Potter And The Goblet of Fire. Now that he's entering his late teens and isn't 'just a child actor' anymore, he is able to voice his opinion about his scenes on set, Daniel added.'It's been an odd five years but it's been great. And we've got a while before the films end,' he was quoted by Sun as saying. 'I'm not absolutely confident that I'm doing them all. I'm definitely doing the fifth, but after that who knows?'Meanwhile, Harry Potter director Mike Newell has revealed that some of the colossal scenes in The Goblet Of Fire had to be almost axed due to studio bosses running short of cash.Britain-born Newell said that within a couple of months of starting on the 100 million pound film, he was 'angered' by the lack of cash. 'There wasn't enough money to make the film properly and that really p****d me off,' he was quoted by Mirror as saying.Newell, who also directed Four Weddings And A Funeral, said the effects-packed opening of the Quidditch World Cup had faced the chop. But after a row with Warner Brothers, it was included to save fans being 'short-changed.'The 12A-rated The Goblet Of Fire features Harry's romance with fellow Hogwarts pupil Cho Chang, as Hogwarts prepares for the Yule Ball. But it also has fear and danger as Lord Voldemort re-emerges, stronger than ever.

New Bond hates shaken Martinis

Daniel Craig may have bagged the coveted role of James Bond but the actor is no gadget-flaunting, gun-weilding fellow in real life. In fact, he has revealed that he hates guns.'I hate handguns. Handguns are used to shoot people and as long as they are around, people will shoot each other,' Craig was quoted by OK! magazine as saying.'That's a simple fact. I've seen a bullet wound and it was a mess. It was on a shoot and it scared me. Bullets have a nastyhabit of finding their target and that's what's scary about them,' he added.Craig is not the only Bond who hates guns. Roger Moore, who played the super spy from 1973 to 1985, said after quitting the role that he hated 'that awful pose' of Bond with his gun, which has become an iconic movie image, reports Sun.The actor later became an ambassador for children's charity UNICEF and declared, 'Today, I am completely opposed to small arms and what they can do to children. I played every role tongue-in-cheek because I don't really believe in that sort of hero. I don't like guns.'Craig, who was unveiled earlier this month as the successor to Pierce Brosnan, also doesn't share Bond's love of Martinis 'shaken, not stirred.'The 37-year-old admitted, 'I love a Martini straight up.' He will play a tougher, grittier 007 in Casino Royale, which is

Kylie may have to undergo mastectomy

Ausstralian pop star Kylie Minogue, who is battling breast cancer at the Institute Gustave-Roussy in Paris, may have to undergo mastectomy, according to reports.Minogue has undergone a lumpectomy to remove the cancerous tissue and is currently under chemotherapy -- but she may well also have to have a mastectomy.Kylie's mother Carol flew to Paris to be with the star.'At this time, I think any woman in the world would want their mum with them, and likewise there is nowhere her mum would rather be. Kylie and her mother are incredibly close,' a friend of the singer was quoted by Daily Mail as saying.Despite the severity of her condition, the singer issued a statement last week staunchly denying rumours that she was 'depressed' and that she was seeking treatment from an alternative medicine guru Nish Joshi, who uses the controversialpractice of 'cupping.'The statement said: 'Despite the wealth of rumours to the contrary, Kylie is in good spirits and is as healthy as can beexpected whilst undergoing her treatment regime in Paris.'It also denied that she had 'sought alternative methods of treatment,' saying that she 'was concerned that other suffererswould be misled by such reports.'

Rahul will tap a made-over clothed
Ever wondered why Rahul Bose hasn't directed a film after the much-lauded debut Everybody Says I'm Fine?"That's because I've been working hard as an actor. In fact I've four releases lined up for this year."But now Rahul is all set to direct his second film. "It will again be in English, with a smattering of Urdu. I've acquired the rights of a very big novel after six months of negotiation."The film won't star Rahul in the lead.Even as he gets set to wear another cap, Rahul will tap a made-over clothed and demure Mallika Sherawat's brid(e)led instincts in Pyar Ke Side Effects. And now Rahul Bose has quietly slipped into the interiors of Orissa to shoot National award-winning Oriya director Manmohan Mahapatra's first Hindi film Bits & Pieces."It's a small –budget film," says Rahul modestly. "And I'm cast with three lovely ladies.I've never worked with Diya Mirza before. She surprised me. With Raima Sen, I recently completed a Bengali film. And as for Nandita Das, we've just done Santosh Sivan's Keral together. All three are very different actresses and therefore fascinating to work with.As for the 'Side Effects'….Rahul says, "Mallika's comic timing and her dedication took me by surprise. People may look on us as an odd couple. But it's finally the oddness that's going to work in the film's favour."He describes Bits & Pieces as a very simple film where he plays "a well-known writer."."Get ready for a grand-slam from Rahul Bose," Rahul jokes. "I've four very different films lined up. First there's Saket Choudhary's Pyar Ke Side Effects, followed by Buddhadeb Das Gupta's Kaal Purush, Santosh Sivan's Keral and Rajeev Virani's The Whisperers. Believe me if you can find four other films as different from each other as this then I'll be your slave for life."

Don: Music Preview
2006 continues to become bigger with every passing week. Barely a few weeks after the musical release of 'Kabhi Alvida Naa Kehna' comes yet another Shahrukh Khan starrer 'Don - The Chase Begins Again'. It is always a thin rope to walk while treading a path that has been taken before by a hugely acclaimed thriller. That makes it doubly difficult for a film like 'Don - The Chase Begins Again' since it is always in the firing line, be it from the movie or music front.he dilemma a film like this faces is something akin to a vicious circle. You set the music in a contemporary manner and the question raised is, "Why to disturb the mood of a classic?" You do otherwise and keep the music just like its yesteryear counterpart and the argument is, "So what's so new about it?" Underlining statement here is that music of a film like this will anyways come in the firing range irrespective of its credentials. Let's hear on the music ourselves and find out how the musical team of Shankar-Ehsaan-Loy, Midival Punditz, DJ Randolph and Javed Akhtar have tried to create some good music in their own way! From a film that is stated to be gizmo-heavy and techno-friendly, the music too is expected to be on the same lines. The beginning is absolutely smashing as the 'mood' is created right away through the 'teaser theme tune' when Shahrukh Khan introduces himself as 'Don' in a chilling tone. The music picks up pace that is interspersed with some classic dialogues from the film. Yes, what you are guessing is right - 'Don ko pakadna mushkil hi nahi namumkin hai'! The signature tune of 'Arrey Deewano....Main Hoon Don' combined with techno effect create just the right ambience for a thriller like this.'Yeh Mera Dil Pyaar Ka Deewana' is the next to follow and Sunidhi Chauhan doesn't let the classic down by any means. Her rendition has that ice cold effect which makes this modern day remix of a decades old song exciting once again. Expect the adrenaline level to go up when the song comes on the big screen! It's time to get back to being techno and instrument driven with the arrival of 2006 version of 'Main Hoon Don'. Except for these golden three words, there is nothing common with the classic original. It takes time to grow on you and it requires at an average 5-10 hearings before one completely gets hooked on.'Aaj Ki Raat' turns out to be most interesting of all since it manages to do what most of the others hadn't so far i.e. surprise you! A song that perfectly combines the mood of today's style with yesterday's theme i.e. turns out to be a true-blue fusion track. A haunting situational track that could well be set during the film's climax, it makes for a good lounge outing.Lastly comes the most awaited song of the enterprise - 'Khaike Paan Banaras Waala'. As expected Udit Narayan gives his everything to a song that he may as well call it as a song of his life because of the 'pressure' factor. One listening to the song and you know that pressure is something that seems to be quite a distance away from the singer.Does the music of today's version of 'Don' fulfill expectations? Yes, it does! Watch out for our exclusive detailed review when the album releases all over tomorrow i.e. 26th August.

Review: Lucky You
May 4, 2007Author: Vıctorıa Alexander
Directed By: Curtis Hanson Starring: Drew BarrymoreEric BanaCameron DiazDebra MessingRobert Duvall Released By: Warner Bros Grade: C- I have lived in Las Vegas for 11 years. I do not know one person who works in a casino or gambles. See how lucky I am? Now, after "Lucky You," I know all I need to know about Texas Hold'Em: The Preflop, the Flop, the Turn, and the River. I know what "Burning the Card" means (After the first betting round, the dealer discards the top card of the deck. This is called "burning the card" and is done to ensure that no one accidentally saw the top card, and to help prevent cheating.) The dealer doesn't play, just deals.I also now know that Drew Barrymore cannot act. She only has chemistry with Cameron Diaz. Eric Bana tries and fails, but Barrymore's character is a proselytizing "good girl" who falls in love with a life-long, degenerate gambler! What does his character, raised and nurtured by a gambler, know about such a woman?Billie Offer (Drew Barrymore) comes to Las Vegas to stay with her older sister Suzanne (Debra Messing) and try her luck as a lounge singer. (First Kristen Dunst in "Spider-Man 3", now Drew Barrymore sings. Are they preparing for their after-movie careers as Broadway stars?) Billie meets Huck Cheever (Eric Bana), a career gambler. Her sister has known him a long time, lent him money from time to time, and warns Billie to stay away from him. Good girl Billie ignores Suzanne's, even after he steals money from her. Now, if only her sister had said: "Yeah, he's hot and great in bed, but don't leave your wallet around."Immediately upon meeting Huck, Billie takes her life savings and goes to a poker table with him. Its fun playing cards with really old people hooked up to hospital equipment! Huck needs ,000 to enter a poker tournament his father, L.C. Cheever (Robert Duvall), has won twice. Is there a Freudian term for a son who is so obsessed with his father that it could easily be described as a not-too-subtle sexual obsession?Huck shows Billie that no matter how many times he gets his hands on the ,000 entrance fee, he blows it. He has no furniture, steals from friends, cheats, lies, and owes everyone money. He's a keeper!By the time he does hit the final table in the tournament, he owes ,000! Since Huck never tells Billie he wants to leave the life, why is she interested in him? Why are these two even attracted to each other? If Billie had admitted that Huck's reckless behavior, corrupt lifestyle and sexiness is a turn-on, the honesty would have made for not only an interesting character, but a more realistic story driven by desire and her need for excitement.Whenever Billie is not on the screen, the story gains momentum. How could it not with Duvall enjoying his character so much? He understands the father-son relationship is the dynamic core of the film. The love story ruins the film. The Duvall-Bana scenes ignite the film. If only Hanson had cut the love story out of the film, he would have had another hit.Why should Billie forgive Huck for his deviousness while he is carrying around a 35 year grudge against his father? Why can't he forgive? The scenes between Bana and Duvall ripple with sexual tension and intellectual speed. They make gambling, the odds, the "tell," the psychology of gambling, interesting. Whenever Bana is on screen with Barrymore, the film stops dead.Bana must be a charismatic person in real life – he has been given a lot of opportunities to bolt to stardom. Bana is closest here under the tutelage of director/co-writer Curtis Hanson (who has shepherded a gallery of actors to erotic sexiness in "L.A. Confidential." Hansen made Eminem a movie star in "8 Mile." He's not good with actresses.) Bana should have been teamed with an actress who can actually show a sexual interest in him. Barrymore could not express Billie's sexual interest in Huck. Was her motive missionary work? The screenwriters have Billie amused by Huck's deceitful lifestyle. Its fun for her watching Huck try to win an absurd ,000 bet. This week "Lucky You" finally opens after being held in the studio vault. But someone – the studio, her agent, her lawyer, her management team – gave Drew a big gift to assuage her lousy performance here – she's on the cover of People magazine's "Most Beautiful People" issue. How does Las Vegas come off? As Sin City? As a playground for sexy stars and young people throwing their morals to the desert wind for 4 days? Nope! In "Lucky You" Las Vegas is the graveyard for people so old they don't enjoy winning money, they just want to have somewhere to go for hours every day. Winning just means they can come back the next day to kill time. I looked at how the production team crowded the casino scenes with old people. Las Vegas scared me. The accessory du jour is the latest model of motorized walker.Where were the strippers, the fat girls showing off too much cleavage, and the tourists walking around drinking from 3' high bottles?

Review: The Condemned
May 4, 2007Author: Adam Mast
Directed By: Scott Wiper Starring: Steve AustinRobert MammoneRick HoffmanVinnie Jones Released By: Lionsgate Grade: D+ The Condemned is a Stone Cold Steve Austin vehicle from the fine folks at the WWE. Had the movie just been a dumb action flick there's a good chance I might have recommended it. Alas, the film makers insist on making a statement and sending a message and do so with a sort of Neanderthal subtlety. The Condemned features Robert Mammone as an egomaniacal TV producer who plots to create a hyper-reality show sensation on the internet. His plan involves rounding up some of the world's most evil criminals, dumping them on an island, and letting them kill one another off until only one remains. Of course all this divine carnage is to be captured by myriad tiny cameras he and his tech crew have set up all over the island. The Condemned is a silly, preposterous, over-the-top actioneer that dares to commit the cardinal sin of trying to infuse a little social commentary. I could have forgiven the movie if only it were inspired or creative in its execution. Unfortunately, The Condemned is neither. The recent Shooter, as ridiculous as it was, plays like one of the greatest thrillers of all time compared to this nonsense.Action films can be entertaining and meaningful. Terminator 2 used violence to push forth an anti-violence message, but the thing is, that movie was damn entertaining and offered up explosive action sequences to boot. The Condemned, by comparison, is more on par with that terrifyingly awful Steven Seagal flick On Deadly Ground. Do you remember that debacle? It's the one where Seagal spends the last fifteen minutes of the film delivering a hilarious monologue about protecting our environment, this coming not but two minutes after he blows up an oil rig in the middle of the ocean. Preach on Brother Steven! In addition to the previous mentioned Seagal flick, The Condemned also takes action cues from The Running Man, Battle Royale, No Escape, and Rambo and tries to mesh them with the satirical edge of Natural Born Killers and the little seen Series 7: The Contenders, with a dash of Survivor thrown in for good measure. Unfortunately, none of this stuff really works.Attempting to hold the film together is wrestling star Stone Cold Steve Austin, and while this ripped muscle man has the tough guy look, he appears uncomfortable throughout most of The Condemned and he isn't shot particularly well (with the cameras, I should clarify). James Cameron knows how to shoot Arnold Schwarzenegger. George P. Cosmatos (God rest his soul) knew how to shoot Sylvester Stallone. Sadly, director Scott Wiper knows how to shoot himself in the foot. He certainly has no success elevating Stone Cold Steve to mythic status, granted better writing certainly would have helped. The Condemned - drags its social commentary along about as gracefully as a port-a-potty behind a Prius. And as a result is self conscious to the point of absolute absurdity. This movie shamelessly tries to have it's cake and eat it too, and the end result is a film that is witless, ugly, mean, and as laughable as it is condemnable. At least the WWE's last movie, the silly horror flick See No Evil, had no such pretensions, they knew it was a silly horror flick and, though no classic, it worked. Wiper presents us with a world full of unsympathetic thugs doing nasty, inhumane things to one another, and, believe it or not, this guy really, really wants us to care. Wipe this.

Review: In The Land of Women
May 4, 2007Author: Adam Mast
Directed By: Jon Kasdan Starring: Adam BrodyMeg RyanKristen StewartOlympia Dukakis Released By: Warner Brothers Grade: B- In the Land of Women marks the directorial debut of Jon Kasdan (son of Lawrence and brother of Jake) and at the very least, the young film maker has inherited his father's gift for creating offbeat but realistic characters. And in fact, as was the case with Jake's recent film (The T.V. Set), Jon has fashioned a movie that's far superior to his father's last venture (the insipid Dreamcatcher). The charming and bittersweet In The Land of Women, stars Adam Brody as an aspiring screenwriter Carter Webb whom, after being dumped by his girlfriend, journeys far away from the hustle and bustle of Hollywood to the comfort of his eccentric grandmother Phyllis (played by a feisty Olympia Dukakis). After settling in, Carter quickly develops a unique bond with his grandmother's neighbor, an emotionally distraught woman named Sarah Hardwicke (played by Meg Ryan). Shortly thereafter, he also becomes an emotional crutch for Sarah's teenage daughter Lucy.In the Land of Women is filled with wonderful little nuances, and Kasdan has an undeniable knack for working with actors. The screenplay is full of richly textured characters, and this terrific ensemble lends real flesh and bone to these people.Adam Brody is charming as the boyish twenty something Carter. He's both lovable and vulnerable and brings to mind a late 80's John Cusack. Meg Ryan is fantastic as Sarah - a woman going through a mid life crisis of sorts. Had Ryan not played this role just right, it could have brought the film down around it, but the veteran brings complexity and emotional depth to this confused woman. Kristen Stewart is sensational as Lucy. As a wise beyond her years teenager, Stewart soars. Her chemistry with Brody flows from the screen in palpable waves.Kasdan takes this story and these characters in interesting directions, and he does so with a veteran's touch. The various relationships that develop are complex, honest, and most of this stuff really rings true. But being the youthful spirit that Kasdan is, he also acknowledges the films he grew up on (namely, the works of John Hughes). And in fact, one of my favorite sequences of In the Land of Women involves a reluctant Carter escorting Lucy to a typical high school party where he must confront a jealous boyfriend. Almost immediately, I was transported back to the 80's when films like Some Kind of Wonderful and Say Anything reigned supreme. In The Land of Women does falter, particularly in the final act. There are a few storylines that are wrapped up a little too quickly (and neatly), and I was never entirely sold on the relationship (or lack thereof) between Carter and his grandmother. Dukakis is terrific here, but we never really see any sort of closeness between she and her grandson, and Phyllis' final moment in the movie is extremely predictable. In the Land of Women is drawing big time comparisons to Zach Braff's indie darling Garden State, and while there are certainly similarities, the core of this movie is vastly different. But like Braff, I suspect that Jon Kasdan is going places. In the Land of Women isn't a perfect motion picture experience, but it's a terrific first effort from a film maker with a lot going for him, namely youth and genetics.

Bollywood actress Minissha Lamba upcoming films
Actress Minissha Lamba, who forayed into filmdom with "Yahaan", will be seen in two different avatars in 2007. In Reema Kagti's "Honeymoon Travels Pvt Ltd" she is paired with Abhay Deol and they play a Parsi couple. Minissha says it is one of the sweetest scripts she's heard to date, reports Bollywood Trade. "Though it has an ensemble cast, every character has some sort of madness and quirkiness about them. The narrative is such that every character has its own uniqueness and specialty. Ours is an endearing couple, madly in love, and stands out in their own way," she said. After that is Ananth Mahadevan's "Anamika - The Untold Story", a romantic thriller loosely based on the bestseller "Rebecca". While Koena Mitra plays Dino Morea's childhood sweetheart, Minissha plays his second wife. "I play this young girl who is thrown into a world that is alien to her. She struggles to find her new identity and new love. She is struggling to deal with this new life of hers amidst the various unnerving situations she finds herself in. You actually see the film through her eyes and how she unravels various mysteries. The film also has an intriguing reference to the past," reveals the petite actor. The actress recently hosted the Global Indian Film Awards (GIFA) and dismisses reports about the event being chaotic."GIFA was a huge platform and a great opportunity for me. I am truly honoured to be a part of it. The entire Popcorn team did a wonderful job and the event went off smoothly. Suniel Shetty personally organised things and I didn't encounter any glitches at all," said Minissha.

Rahman unveiled Friday his first ever English rendition "Pray for me brother", the first music video to be shot on mobile cinemascope format, to create awareness about poverty in the world and urged people to support the cause."This is the first video to be shot on mobile cinemascope vertical format. This song was conceived as an anti-poverty anthem for the millennium goals for the UN. When I was doing it, I never realized it is going to go to this level. It took me two years to make it," he said. "Pray for me brother" is part of a joint venture between Nokia N series and the A.R. Rehman Foundation."I told my friends in London that I have a song for the UN and I want some sponsors. They introduced me to Nokia. Nokia N series supported it and got some of the best filmmakers in the world to make the video," said Rahman."Pray for me brother" will have its worldwide launch early next year and the video will be exclusively available on Nokia N series music edition. Rahman will sing the anti-poverty song live at Nokia's New Year's Eve celebrations in Mumbai Dec 31 for the first time. Talk with Abhishek : Mallika is a fabulous co-star, says Abhishek Bachchan :
After Akshaye Khanna and Rahul Bose, it's Bollywood's rising star Abhishek Bachchan's turn to lavish praises on hot and happening Mallika Sherawat, who makes a special appearance in his upcoming film "Guru". "Mallika is fantastic. She is a fabulous co-star. We shot the song 'Mayaa Mayya' in an abandoned church in Istanbul. She danced bare feet, practiced 8-10 hours every day but not once did she complain. She was always smiling and pleasant." Abhishek has a lot riding on his latest and much-awaited release "Guru". The 30 plus actor says he has given his 100 percent to the film, which opens in theatres Friday in India and Canada -- and hopes it turns out to be the best of his career. "The film covers the life of a Gurukant Desai. It was challenging to play the journey of a man that starts at age 15 and goes on till 70. Am I open to playing an old man's role? Yeah, why not! Everybody grows old, I am going to be 31 and I would love to play such roles," Abhishek said at a press conference here. The film by maverick filmmaker Mani Ratnam is apparently inspired by business tycoon Dhirubhai Ambani's life. Talking about his role, Abhishek added: "I have learnt a lot from the film. I learned how to put on weight in two weeks and how to lose it one week (laughs). "However, on a serious note, I think if an actor gives to a character, he takes back as much from that character. In the film, my character is iconic and he is not apologetic about what he is doing. My character taught me about the right attitude and philosophies of life," said Abhishek. After Ratnam's "Yuva", which marked a turning point in Abhishek's career, "Guru" is his second film with the talented filmmaker and he is thankful to him for giving a new dimension to his career. "Mani Ratnam always inspires you not only by his work but also the kind of work he takes out of you. I was not confident when he offered me Lallan Singh's role in 'Yuva' but I will always respect Mani for having confidence in me - which I didn't have in myself at that time." Playing the other lead roles in the film are Aishwarya Rai, R. Madhavan, Vidya Balan and Mithun Chakrobarty. Before making it big with "Yuva" Abhishek had a string of flops. Did he ever felt like giving up? "I come from a family which doesn't believe in giving up. But yes, at one point of time I wasn't sure about myself. I went to my father and asked him: 'Have I made a mistake?' "When you are being criticised, you take it seriously and try to improve your bad points as I did, but when you fail again, it is certainly disheartening." Asked which film he rated as his best, Abhishek said that none of them fitted the bill so far. "I hope 'Guru' fills that space," he remarked. On the constant media focus on his private life, he said that he didn't mind media speculations but he couldn't share his private life with anybody. "Public figures or celebrities enjoy publicity. If you have problems with media scrutiny, you shouldn't become a celebrity. But what a celebrity doesn't like is sharing his or her personal life because that's the only thing which they can call 'mine'. "And I don't think the general public is interested in celebrities' personal lives. They are forced to take interest. The audience is only interested in the character a hero plays. "But at the same time I don't even know what is being written about my personal life. Reporters are doing their job and I can't stop them from writing. I can't let it irritate me either. As far as sharing goes, as and when I would have something to share, I will definitely share it." Abhishek also explained his new hair do, which is the talk of town. "I am growing it because Shaad Ali asked me to grow it for 'Jhoom Barabar Jhoom' and then I am also doing "Drona" in which my character needs to have long hair." After his hip-hop number in "Bluffmaster" became a huge hit, the actor is coming up with an album too. "Music directors Vishal-Shekhar and me are working on an album which will most probably come out by the end of the year. So, I am going to haunt you with my voice

Randeep Hooda & Sushmita Sen Kiss :
The publicity pictures of him kissing Sushmita Sen in the film "Karma, Confessions And Holi" smack of the producer's desperation, says upcoming actor Randeep Hooda. "I'm disgusted by the producers. Surely they've got more to attract the public to the theatres than a kiss between two actors? By flashing one scene, they're just being cheap and undignified in their promotion. May be they need a less cheesy publicity machinery," Randeep The last time a smooch scene featuring Sushmita was splashed about, she had blown her top. "And she should protest against this tacky publicity again. It's not right," said her ex-beau. Randeep isn't aware of the film's release plans. "No one has informed me. The kissing scenes are part of the film. And I'm not in the least embarrassed about kissing such a gorgeous woman on screen." The actor recalled the weeks spent shooting the film in New York with great affection. "It was a great experience. I had never been to America before and I was really looking forward to it. I wanted to see the American style of working first-hand. I've always been very inspired by American cinema. The experience boosted my confidence. Randeep said boundaries in cinema have disappeared. "But let me point out, 'Karma, Confessions And Holi' isn't a Hollywood film. It's an independent film made by Rapture Films. According to me, Hollywood films are those made by the studios in Los Angeles."This independent film gave me a chance to feel very independent. It took very little time to be shot. Having a slice of the Big Apple was a great experience. In essence, Mumbai and New York are very similar. I hired a limousine and travelled all over. I visited every possible watering hole. I loved the freedom and passion in New York." Randeep's sister was also in New York at the time. "She's a doctor, like my father, and she's got her residency in New York. My sister is my inspiration for becoming an actor." The actor continues to be extra picky about his roles. The young actor is on the verge of signing a bunch of new films.

Aishwarya after marriage ? :
The much talked about Abhishek Bachchan-Aishwarya Rai marriage has sparked off a lot of speculation about Ash's future assignments. However, Ram Gopal Varma confirms he's going ahead with "Sarkar 2" as per plans, as has Karan Johar's chief assistant Tarun Mansukhani. Aishwarya has also said yes to Shridhar Raghavan's "Happy Birthday" with John Abraham, in principle. In the light of these declarations, the contention that the actress would back out of her commitments including Vicky ("Fight Club") Chopra's "Raaste", seems implausible. Says "Raaste" producer Suniel Shetty: "My film with Chopra is very much on. But I'm in no hurry to start it. A lot depends on when Abhishek and Aishwarya get married. This project needs a lot of pre-production preparation. So whenever they're comfortably placed we will go ahead with it. As a producer I want to make sure I don't stress anyone out." Aishwarya, who's currently ensconced in Karjat shooting for Ashutosh Gowariker's "Jodha-Akbar", has the film fraternity agog to see her in her next two films with Hrithik Roshan and Abhishek. Says a young and very ambitious director: "I want to bring her together with both Abhishek and Hrithik, since she's proved herself a hit with them both in 'Guru' and 'Dhoom 2'. I'm working on a script and will approach them only after I'm completely satisfied that I can do full justice to all of them. "I've been assured by her secretary that Aishwarya has no plans for quitting. These rumours are being spread by people who would rather see her quit than conquer new heights. She has given two hits in a row and is more career-focussed now and determined to prove she's here to stay, than ever before." While she has the historical "Jodha-Akbar" with Hrithik, there are three projects with Abhishek in the pipeline. The elusive Rekha for one is dying to see "Jodha-Akbar". "I haven't seen 'Guru'. But I saw portions of 'Dhoom 2' and was very impressed by Aishwarya. That girl knows how to carry herself. I'm certainly looking forward to seeing her in 'Jodha-Akbar'," said Rekha. Laughs Gowariker: "I'm not daunted by people's expectations from Ash in 'Jodha-Akbar'. I don't know how well I'm directing. But she is certainly every bit the epitome of Jodha."

Sanjaya in last 7, getting more wows than barbs
Washington/New York Indian American teen wonder Sanjaya Malakar, comfortably survived another elimination round on the hit US show "American Idol" after singing a Latino number, a performance that even the judge Simon Cowell, so far hostile to him, found "wasn't horrible". Malakar, who in the words of The Washington Post's TV columnist has completely taken over the "American Idol" singing competition, was among the five declared "safe" in Wednesday night's results round that left seven in the fray. Even before he sang one note Tuesday night, Malakar, the focus of YouTube parodies and the site Votefortheworst.com, got a rave review from megastar Jennifer Lopez and then a rare if reluctant compliment from judge Simon Cowell. Sprouting Marc Anthonyesque facial hair in honour of J. Lo's appearance as guest "mentor", he left her utterly smitten. "He chose a beautiful Spanish song and I have to tell you, he really impressed me!" J. Lo gushed to the camera after rehearsing "Besame Mucho" with Sanjaya. "I love Sanjaya!" she giggled, adding, "I think Simon might be impressed." "I have to tell you he really, really impressed me," said Lopez as his ballad, sung in Spanish, hushed the excited crowd. "I couldn't understand a word of it, you sang like a 14-year-old and - I'm going to hate myself for this - it wasn't horrible," judge Cowell, usually very harsh on Sanjaya's singing aspirations, confessed. "You are one of the smartest contestants we've ever had," a mesmerised Randy Jackson told Sanjaya, who has an Indian father and an Italian mother. "Smooth. It was nice - very, very nice," said Paula Abdul. As America watched transfixed by his singing and his hair, Malakar's pastor and choir director in his Seattle hometown said: "I hope people know I'm so proud of this young man."

Go Air's Brand Ambassador is Preity Zinta
Bollywood actress Preity Zinta's decision to serve as brand ambassador for GoAir may have raised some eyebrows, but the star shrugs off any "loose talk" that it has anything to do with boyfriend Ness Wadia. She replies, unfazed as ever: "First of all the airline is run by Ness' brother Jay. They asked me to be their brand ambassador. Very honestly, I did it because I truly think it's a fantastic airline with really low fares. It's an amazingly quality-conscious product and just the product I'd like to endorse."

Kangana Ranaut & Salman Khan in a TV Ad :
Mumbai, Apirl 30 (IANS) If there are any doubts about Kangana Ranaut's growing clout in the entertainment market, her latest triumph should put all questions to rest. She's not only been chosen by international shoe company Red Tape to endorse their brand, the actress will shoot with Salman Khan for a TV ad. So far Salman endorsed the brand. "It was my casual looks, I guess. The brand isn't associated with formal shoes - only sporty footwear, sneakers etc. They want me to endorse their shoes in my jeans and with my curly hair. Very youth-oriented. And the fact that they expect my career to grow with their new female line up of shoes makes the endorsement a bigger responsibility for me." Apparently Red Tape has paid Kangana a whopping figure and has promised to enhance the amount by 30 percent in the next financial year."At this rate I'll soon realise my dream of buying my own house. The shoes and my career are supposed to journey together. It's a good thought. "I'm excited about the ad with Salman. I've always been his fan. I think he's the only rock star in our cinema. I had watched him dance at an awards function and hoped I'd be paired with him one day. It's happening sooner than I thought."

Kareena Kapoor is yet another K-family girl who took the plunge and managed to make a huge splash in the Hindi films industry. She had the ‘privilege’ of debuting with the Bachchan boy -Abhishek in Refugee and though the film (and Abhishek) didn’t do as well as expected, Kareena earned rave reviews.Though the protagonist in Refugee was around the border a lot, J. P. Dutta failed recreate the magic of Border in Refugee. The natural and talented Kareena, without heavy make-up delivered on the sets without too many ‘takes’. And in fact, Refugee doesn't really look like her debut film at all.Born to popular Bollywood stars Randhir Kapoor and Babita Kapoor ‘Bebo’ as she is affectionately known, stand 5'5" tall, blue eyed, and is a total extrovert. She wanted to study law in Harvard and had no plans to do anything in Bollywood. But destiny took a hancd and now she’s in the limelight like her successful sister Karishma! Some well-placed sources in the industry (yeah it is a super cliché) even say that Kareena’s Bollywood launch was delayed so that her sis Karishma could have a head start! But the two are supposed to be very close to each other and as Kareena says- “We are always looking out for each other. We’re sisters first and everything else later!” That’s Lolo and Bebo for you!- Mtv India on Kareena Kapoor

Amrita Rao

Delicately boned with a face that can launch a million products, A student of psychology Amrita was always fascinated by acting, but never in her wildest dreams had she thought that one day she would pursue it - "Especially because I had no contacts in the film industry at all. I thought it was tough battle if one wanted to establish oneself here. I guess I was destined to be here!"
Having modeled for nearly 35 ads, her decision to act in films didn't come as a surprise. What came as a surprise was that unlike other models who dropped out of college to pursue their careers, Amrita Rao preferred to thumb down film offers to complete her graduation in psychology. And she has a word of advise for all those aspiring to make it big in this profession. "Don't be disillusioned and depressed if you don't get a worthy opportunity here. There are other fields you can excel in!"
Her first modeling assignment was for a fairness cream. "When I was told I would have to audition for it, I said, "Audition?" The word itself made me feel jittery. Thankfully I was not camera conscious. The little bit of acting that I did after reading the storyboard appealed to them. I got through it successfully," she laughs. But it was the Close-up toothpaste ad that made her a familiar face in the ad world.
If the Close-up ad fetched her recognition, the Cadbury's Perk ad offered her platform to step into films. "You know Perk and Liril are two brands that get you noticed as a model. The girl always stands out in the ads," she says. Perk had the beautiful but hungry Amrita dressed in bridal attire eagerly waiting for the moon to be seen, but even before it appears her hubby hands her a perk that has a smiling with delight. "Raj Kanwar saw that ad and got touch with me. He told me about Ab Ke Baras and how it was Arya Babbar's launch vehicle and that I was perfect to play the lead opposite him in the film."
She continues, "There are several reasons why I decided to choose Ab Ke Baras as my first film. Firstly Raj Kanwar is one director who has given several hit films like Deewana, Judaai, Laadla. Secondly, I was making a debut opposite Arya, who is Raj Babbar's son, and we all know what an excellent actor Rajji is. And thirdly and most importantly or critically, it is the role that I get to play in the film. Since Ab Ke Baras has a reincarnation theme and I get to portray two different characters in the film. I could not have asked for anything better. Otherwise what do newcomers get to do in their first film-dance over a couple of songs, say a few dialogues and that's it!"
Rajkumar Santoshi approached Amrita after seeing her in a coffee ad. "In fact, Santoshi was one of the directors who had contacted me after watching the Perk ad. I had to turn down his film offer because I wanted to concentrate on my studies. When he approached me for The Legend Of Bhagat Singh, Rajkumar Santoshi made it clear to me that it was very brief role and would not require more than five days to complete it. I agreed immediately because I got to play Bhagat Singh's fiancé. Few know about her. The sacrifice she makes by living as his widow even though they never marry. The character does leave its impact in the film."
Besides Legend Of Bhagat Singh Amrita Rao was also seen in Ken Ghosh's Ishq Vishq. Fortunately for her, the film became a hit. Amrita made her presence felt in the film.
Apart from acting what other hobbies did she pursue? "I like to read! But I don't have the patience to read a whole novel so I prefer to read those books that have stories in them. Like recently I enjoyed reading Chitra Banerjee's book called Arranged Marriage. I also relish reading short stories written by Jeffery Archer." What about film magazines? How did she intend dealing with the gossip press? "It does hurt reading malicious articles especially when people know who you are. I guess I will have to learn to take things in my stride," she smilingly concluded

But he never became a gunda in school. He always had fun with his teachers.
Life after school: Shahrukh had a food restaurant in Darya Ganj, New Delhi. In 1989, he moved to bombay, and that’s when his acting career began. His first TV serial was Fauji (produced by Colonel Kapoor), followed by Circus (produced by Aziz Mirza) and he also did a serial where he acted as a Sikh, with a turban. He likes to do his own stunts.

He wishes he knew how to play a guitar. So whenever he went to a party, he would love to pick up a guitar and sing. He thinks it’s really cool. If he were to be born again: he would love to be a singer-not a rock star, just a plain singer. When and where is he the happiest: His computer room and bedroom. He can’t decide. He feels happy in both places. He is at peace with himself when he is lying in bed with Gauri chatting. School Life with Friends: There were four of them and called themselves the ‘c’ gang. As they were from the c-section. They are still friends and are married friends. Like he married Gauri who’s best friend is married to Vikas. He has never had more friends and close friends than these three-except perhaps, Chikki. Anyway, they were very cool, yanky gang, very American. They loved wearing Nike and they’d have a little spring in their walk, like the Americans and the blacks do. Like in Grease.Fun with Teachers: Whenever they got a new teacher, he’d pretend to have an epileptic fit. The students would pull off his shoes and would force him to walk bare feet. Everybody knew that Shah Rukh was probably taking his ass. He was really very wicked. Relationship he shared with his teachers: One person who really shaped his life was Brother Eric D’Souza. He was short and sweet. He taught him all the games and a lot about life. He used to smoke a lot and Shah Rukh used to tell him that only weak people smoked so much. Now he does it. The Arrogance: Shah Rukh would return home at nine every night, after taking part in elocution, exhibitions, or rehearsing. Later at night he would play Cricket under the street lamp. He would study at the last minute as he had a good memory. At college he was quite lost as he came from a sophisticated school. But he wasn’t a pseudo guy with an accent like most guys from St. Columbia’s get. He admits that he learnt to be arrogant because of the atmosphere in school. He had it for 13 years in school. That amount of arrogance he says is good. Then that attitude continued at Stephens College, which he left after a year. He then joined Hansraj College.Any Girlfriends at College? He had very good friends but never affairs. He would sit with girls. Some would help him write his notes like Usha and Anju Shah. He never sat with a girl and chatted with her. He was always in a gang. Coming from a segregated school, his relationship with girls had always been from a distance. St. Columbia made him a sort of Dennis the Menace, where falling in love was stupid-macho men don’t fall in love.

Ajay Devgan

Both the debutantes of a hit film titled Phool Aur Kaante of the early 90s had one thing in common in store for them; they would be recognized very well in their consecutive films.Madhu's portrayal in and as Roja will forever stay in viewers minds. AndAjay Devgan has reached superstardom with a series of well-enacted roles in some good films.Though the Devgan boy shifted from doing dishum dishum stuff quite sometime back, the definite departure was noticed in Pyaar To Hona Hi Tha.Son of ace fight-master Veeru Devgan, Ajay was exposed to films at a very early age. He accompanied his father on several occasions to film set-ups and shooting schedules. At his age, he must have been impressed by the stunts his father directed. So, when he grew up and entered films, Ajay did some hair-raising stunts in his films.Being the son of a fight master and fond of performing stunts, Devgan's earlier films were more of the violent nature. The trend in his career changed with Ishq, a soft romantic comedy where he was paired opposite Kajol.Soon, Ajay's potential as a romantic hero capable of delivering emotional performances was discovered and the actor did not mind the change. After a couple of films came Hum Dil De Chuke Sanam and Ajay became hot property.

IIFA in Amsterdam
April 24, 2005It’s the celebration of Indian Cinema. The International Indian Film Academy. Propelling Indian Cinema to glorious pinnacles beyond Indian shores. The International Indian Film Academy believes that when Dadasaheb Phalke, the father of Indian Cinema, switched on the arc lights for the first time, he turned the sun on Indian Cinema. It is the same mythical sun, which inspires the IIFA logo and the trophy, which the world holds in awe. Standing 18 inches tall, the trophy is an artistic representation of the sun. The two rays represent the coming together of Indian and World cinema. The nine rays of the sun on the trophy are symbolic of the ‘Navrasas’- the nine emotions that form the core of performing arts in Indian culture. Each trophy is made of pure brass, plated with 24-carat gold and finally lacquered to represent the golden brilliance of the sun and also creativity. The same sun guides IIFA as it continues the journey, celebrating Indian Cinema across the globe. The International Indian Film Academy (IIFA) have announced details of the sixth annual IIFA Weekend and Awards, at a press conference held in Amsterdam . IIFA Weekend 2005 and IIFA Awards 2005 will be hosted at the picturesque and pulsating city of Amsterdam featuring among other events, a Celebrity Cricket Match, a film festival and a World Film Premiere. The IIFA Weekend will be held from June 9 to 12, 2005 culminating with the glittering IIFA Awards Ceremony on June 11, 2005 at the splendid Amsterdam ArenA Stadium. The I.I.F.A. Bunty Aur Babli Dissaponts
OKAY, so yashraj's new product is here. yet another attempt by Abhishek to hit stardom and another by Shaad Ali (SAATHIYA) to create magic at the box office. A yashraj film is always special to me. I have always looked forward to the release of their movies. After churning out good films consistently, notable works being KABHI KABHI, CHANDNI, LAMHE, DDLJ, DTPH and the recent hits DHOOM, HUM TUM and VEER ZAARA, my huge expectations from BUNTY AUR BABLI were inevitable. Someone close to me recently commented that people's high expectations from any film ruins the movie-going experience. Picture this: someone going into a theatre with a blank mind, not knowing what the film is all about, and maintaining a nice grin and a good mood while coming out of a theatre. But I didnt belong to this category of an audience, obviously I had a good amount of knowledge of the film I was going to watch, thanks to an excellent yashraj publicity campaign (Abhishek and Rani acting as journalists in that news channel NDTV was quite an innovative strategy), the appealing promos and an impressive star cast. I just couldn't resist myself from expecting high. The movie starts off well, with some well handled sequences involving confrontation of the star pair with their respective parents. But as the film progresses, it starts losing steam. However, Abhishek and Rani do manage to bring a smile to your face with their sincere effort. It gives hope to the viewer in the scene when they meet each other for the first time, and a couple of scenes that follow involving the one in which they commit their first crime, by robbing an investor of Rs. 15,000 in a hotel. But thereafter, the pace keeps on decelerating. The major problem with B & B is that its not consistent enough to hold the interest of the viewer for its entire duration. The plot is practically non-existent and barring some well handled sequences, it gets irritating and sluggish most of the times. Amitabh Bachchan's entry just before the intermission grabs your interest. You actually enjoy watching his trademark style which he used to posess during his DEEWAR/TRISHUL/LAAWARIS days. the second half again starts off well, thanks to the hilarious sequence when abhishek gives the taj mahal on rent to a foreign millionaire. But after that, the pace just keeps on dropping... The major block that comes in the way of B & B becoming an utterly enjoyable flick is its screenplay. Its not a bad film, but could have certainly been better. The music is good but some of the songs like NACH BALIYE and that item number involving ash were quite misplaced. They only contribute to the sluggish pace of the film. The last portions are long drawn and test the viewer's patience. The performances of the lead characters are quite good. Amitabh Bachchan stands out, delivering another superb performance as a weird, unconventional police officer. Abhishek Bachchan gives a sincere performance, and has become only better with every film. Rani proves once again her acting calibre. Watch out for her comic timing! BUNTY AUR BABLI is a chance lost for Shaad Ali, thanks to a weak screenplay. If it weren't the acting of the lead characters, it could have ended becoming an utter waste of time. rating: ** and 1/2

Paresh Rawal: The Actor Who Redifined Comedy
naam sunte hi mujhe andaaz ho gaya tha ki tum filmi aur awara kisam ke lade ho" " woh to mai kha gaya, woh mai mast tel mein fry karke, woh mai kha gaya" "tera naam kya hai, raam...nahi shaam...are tu koi bhi aam ho" "devi ka prasad mandir mein, yahan nahi" "utha le re baba, utha le, mere ko nahi re, in dono ko utha le.." "raam raam, yeh patni hai...ke panauti hai" "chup kar nahi to kheech ke doonga" heard that before? obviously you do...there's one thing in common and you know what...the great PARESH RAWAL.. What made me actually post this article is the classic film ANDAZ APNA APNA that i watched the night before..watching his comic timing and then analyzing it deeply did i realize the great potential of his acting...effortlessly portraying his double weird characters of TEJA and RAMGOPAL BAJAJ with his perfect comic timing, he had people all over in India in splits. Especially the scene when he interviews Aamir and Salman when they came to his house for his daughters hand in marriage...His sarcastic speech which he displays still makes me grin... That was the film which made people discover his funny bone..the best was yet to come in the form of yet another riot HERA PHERI... playing the role of baburao to perfection with that killer marathi accent, he created a rage among people...they still call him by that name. Baburao ganpatrao apte remains as one of the most memorable comic characters ever.... His comic abilities were evident from the fact that he made flms like AWARA PAGAL DEEWANA and HUNGAMA run at the box office solely because of his superb comic timing..... Paresh Rawal certainly deserves the tag that has been labelled on him...that of THE COMEDY KING... Waiting to see more of you, Mr. Rawal..

After being through a disastrous run at the box office in the form of KYUN HO GAYA NA and SHABD, and being overshadowed by Mallika Sherawat's skimpy outfits at the Cannes film festival, finally here's some good news for the gorgeous Aishwarya Rai and her fans. Our desi beauty has been ranked as one of the ten most beautiful women of the world by the Harpers & Queen magazine. Topping the list was Hollywood actress Angelina Jolie; the others in the top ten list include Christy Turlington, Queen Rania of Jordan, Sofia Coppola, Nigella Lawson, Uma Thurman, Emmanuelle Béart, Kate Moss, Aishwarya Rai and Charlotte, of Monaco.

Paheli and Tanishq
While director Amol Palekar is awaiting the released of his new film 'Paheli', starring Shah Rukh Khan and Rani Mukherji, he is busy in Delhi launching a new jewelry line, which both stars are endorsing. It's a deal made between Red Chillies Entertainment and Tanishq. This is no mere product endorsement either. The promotional campaign is phenomenal, as it encompasses not only the jewelry but also the film itself with posters and actual footage of 'Paheli'. And if that weren't enough to tempt you, each and every customer of this collection will receive an autographed letter by Shah Rukh Khan and Rani Mukherji. How's that for a sweet deal?!

Life in a... Metro

Starring: Shiney Ahuja, Shilpa Shetty, Kay Kay Menon, Sharman Joshi, Gautam Kapoor, Konkona Sen Sharma, Kangna Ranaut, Irrfan Khan, Dharmendra, Nafisa AliDirector: Anurag BasuMusic: PritamProducer: Ronnie Screwvala

The tale of 'One City, Countless emotions’ works. Director Anurag Basu is a story teller who has a rare talent of putting a story in the right frame for his viewers to visualize. Life in a...Metro has a very complex dimension given to the word 'love'. The story is knitted with a lot of tales and fancies that happen in any urban city.
Rahul (Sharman Joshi) works as a call centre executive in a BPO in the metro city Mumbai. Rahul is a silent lover and admires his colleague Neha (Kangana Ranaut). Neha has rose in the ranks of the company not due to her commitment towards her work but it is because of the affection that her boss Ranjeet (Kay Kay) has towards her. Ranjeet wants Neha just to fulfill his physical desires.
Ranjeet is a married man. He has a 6 year old son and lives with his wife Shikha (Shilpa Shetty). Shikha is an educated urban girl who decides to give up her profession so that she could concentrate on her son. Soon, their married life turns into a bed of thorns and Ranjeet finds life in Neha. Ranjeet finds this cool and exciting and there is no commitment involved.
Shikha is attracted towards Akash (Shiney Ahuja), whose wife had divorced him. Akash is a rebellion and a loser without a cause. Akash and Shikha’s love blossoms and she almost crosses her limits that she has so fervently guarded all these years.
Amol (Dharmendra), a 70 year old man returns to India after a huge gap of 40 years. He wants to spend the last years of his life with Vaijanti (Nafisa Ali), his first love. Vaijanti is Shikha’s aunt and her pillar of strenghth. There is another story blossoming up. Shikha’s sister Shruti (Konkana Sen Sharma) is a employee at Radiomirchi and is looking for her best man. She gets hooked up with RJ Wishy K (Gautam Kapoor) and their affair blossoms. She also meets Debu (Irrfan Khan) through a matrimonial website. Debu is ready to marry Shruti but Shruti loves RJ Wishy K.
Anurag Basu does well to handle the complex story but some parts of it still lack the awesome touch witnessed before in films like Murder and Gangster. The concept of introducing Pritam and his band in every song of the film does not add to the flavour of the film.
Yes, there is an element of truth in what his movie tries to convey and I dare say that this film is brilliant, but only in patches. What saves the day for Basu is his super star cast. Almost everyone comes out trumps with an understated performance that screams out loud! No histrionics here. Just, plain, simple playing the character.
Shilpa, Kay Kay, Irrfan and Konkona vying for top honors. Shilpa delivers her finest performance thus far, much better than her work in PHIR MILENGE. Irrfan is the life of the show. You're bound to run out of adjectives to describe this performance. He's sure to appeal to every strata -- elite, intellectuals, classes, masses, kids… Konkona compliments Irrfan beautifully all through. A brilliant performance yet again. Dharmendra is simply superb. He makes you moist-eyed at several places. Sharman Joshi underplays his character beautifully. Kangana is not in form this time. Shiney Ahuja is passable. He deserved a few more meaty scenes. Nafisa Ali is grace personified. Gautam Kapoor is adequate. Manoj Pahwa is okay.
Overall, Life in a... Metro is a multiple stories run concurrently.
